The staff at ExecuJet MRO Services in South Africa started loom knitting scarves, beanies and several other items to be donated to several charities for Mandela Day on 18 July 2019.

The project started with the first wool being bought on 17 May and 32 ladies from the Lanseria facility and 3 staff members from Cape Town (including men) started knitting furiously to be finished in time with as many items as possible.

A total of 323 items were knitted, which included 105 scarves, 212 beanies, 4 pairs of gloves, 1 headband and 1 blanket.  Everything was completed on 28 June – 42 days after they started.

During July, deliveries were made to El Roi Baby House in Lanseria, the Krugersdorp Child Welfare in Krugersdorp, the NG Welfare in Krugersdorpand the Kungwini Welfare Organisation in Pretoria.  We hope that everyone will be a bit warmer during these winter months.

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July – Mandela’s birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.
